Renewed focus on tourism

Tourism is now being focused on (again) as a possible source of foreign dollars once logging collapses - this even from the Governor General.

Exciting tourism related developments are alreadyunderway:

• a price war on the Honiara-Brisbane route via the entrance of SkyAirworld.
• a new SI Visitors Bureau board.
• possible international flights to Munda in the Western Province.

But big challenges remain:

• internal domestic air services are very poor.
• controversy continues to surround the Munda international airport project.

But the Tourism minister sees corruption as a key hindrance to tourism. Without specifying the ways in which this happens, Hon. Seth Gukuna reiterated the potential of tourism in his parliamentary speech.
